London based fans of manga artist Tagame Gengoroh are in for a treat! On Wednesday 22nd May 2019 Japan House London will be hosting Tagame Gengoroh in conversation with book curator Haba Yoshitaka.
The event forms part of their new library display LGBTQ+: Diversity in Manga. Artist Tagame Gengoroh is a superb pick for the event having created the manga My Brother's Husband, a tender story about a single dad meeting his estranged brother's husband.
While My Brother's Husband is known to be a sensitive story Tagame's other work doesn't shy away from more mature and gritty renditions of gay life.
We're very excited about this event, as it's rare you'll get a chance to see a talk like this in London.
The event is free to attend, but booking is essential. As always we advise booking early to avoid disappointment.

The good folks from manga publisher Seven Seas Entertainment have just sent us a load of details about their recent license acquisitions. They've got pretty much something for everyone, including Haruka Takachiho and Hisao Tamaki's Dirty Pair Manga Omnibus which is a manga retelling of the first Dirty Pair Light Novel.
We're very curious about the very interesting sounding My Father Is a Unicorn which tells the tale of Issei who's Mum has remarried to a shape shifting unicorn (as one does), so now Issei's step dad is a unicorn and hilarity ensues. We've not been as excited about a title like this since Seven Seas licensed My Girlfriend is a T-Rex (which you can also buy on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com.

The good folks from anime streaming service Crunchyroll have just sent us a reminder that One-Punch Man Season 2 is now out for streaming for viewers in the UK. Helpfully they've also got a A Super Serious Look Back! episode helping you recap season 1 so you can then jump straight into season 2.
The anime based on the successful manga follows the adventures of Saitama a guy who became a hero for fun. His intense training regime made him bald, but also made him ridiculously strong! So much so he can defeat any opponent in one punch. As a result Saitama is incredibly bored. The whole series parodies the super hero genre so well, with heroes and villains that seem a bit familiar but also hilarious.

The good folks from anime distributors Anime Limited have announced that they'll be releasing an Ultimate Edition of Satoshi Kon's psychological thriller Perfect Blue. Anime Limited normally have different grades of releases, for them a collectors edition generally has a nice artbook and maybe a soundtrack, all nicely packaged in a special box of some kind. While to earn the badge of ultimate edition, they generally go a lot further. This release includes a 48 page companion book, the complete storyboard book (which is a huge 384 pages), plus a CD soundtrack. Both books are A4 size which means the box will also be A4 size.
They've also included a new remaster of Perfect Blue on blu-ray. Anime Limited say "this Blu-ray is different as it's a brand new remaster of the film! This remaster - which you won't have seen in any cinema or other home video release before - improves on the overall visual quality of the film, giving you a new viewing experience that really show off its direction and composition as is befitting of such an important film."

We're already excited about Netflix showing Evangelion next year, but we've now got another reason to be excited for 2019. Tidying Up with Marie Kondo is a new Netflix Original show and will be released globally from Tuesday 1st January 2019. The 8 episode series will focus on people who are at a cross road in their lives and need a bit of Marie Kondo's tidying magic to help them get by.
Marie Kondo, who is also known as Kon Mari is a Japanese tidying expert. Her best selling books include The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying, Spark Joy: An Illustrated Guide to the Japanese Art of Tidying, plus a manga The Life-Changing Manga of Tidying Up: A Magical Story, which is ideal for those who prefer a manga version of something!
By de-cluttering your life you can make it better. She's coined the phrase Spark Joy and her philosophy is about more that just getting rid of junk. In a commercial age where it's all about buying more stuff, Marie Kondo is more about keeping things that have utility and bring you joy. In the past she's had a special on NHK World where she visited people and helped them out, we expect this new series to have a similar format.

The good folks at the British Museum have just announced a major manga exhibition set to run during 2019. Called Manga マンガ it will explore the phenomenon of manga, and will be the largest exhibition of the art form ever to take place outside of Japan.
Why is the British Museum hosting a manga event? Well, it's not a secret, they've hosted events related to manga before such as Hokusai beyond the Great Wave, plus even had manga set at the Museum in the form of Professor Munakata's British Museum adventure. Speaking to some staff there we know they're massive manga fans too.
Many of the objects at the exhibition are loans coming to the UK for the first time. At the moment they're tight lipped about what exactly will be there as they want to keep it a surprise, but the official graphics used with the announcement includes Golden Kamuy's Asirpa. So we're guessing they will have some of Noda Satoru's work. We know very little else about the exhibit yet, but they do tease other things on a blog post accompanying the event. Pikachu himself was also present at Museum for the announcement.
The British Museum normally deliver something special, so we know we'll be in for a cultural treat when the exhibition runs next year.
The event is set to run from 23rd May - 26th August 2019 at Room 30 in the British Museum. The event is ticketed and costs £19.50 for adults, while free for under 16s, plus a 2 for 1 ticket deal for students on Fridays. Members of the British Museum can get in for free. So head to London!

Anime fans in Aberystwyth will be pleased to hear about the local leg of the Kotatsu Japanese Animation Festival. It's been running since 2010 and is set to return to the Aberystwyth Arts Centre on Saturday October 20th 2018. Attendees are in for a treat, they've got screenings of some truly delightful films, including Fireworks, Lu Over the Wall and Mirai.
We highly recommend Lu Over the Wall a quirky tail from Masaaki Yuasa (you can read our review here), along with Mirai from popular anime director Mamoru Hosoda, the screening is a week after it's run at the BFI London Film Festival, but also before it get a national screening. So you'll be able to see it before most people!
They'll also be showing Studio Ghibli's When Marnie Was There, something that you should really catch on a big screen. Other titles include Psychic School Wars and Attack on Titan: Roar of Awakening.
As always with events like this we suggest booking early to avoid disappointment, tickets aren't on sale yet for Aberystwyth, but will be soon, so please keep a look out!
Also don't forget you can catch some other great films at the Cardiff leg of the festival too.
