UK Ghibli fans will want to head to London in October to catch screenings of When Marnie Was There at the BFI London Film Festival.

The Film will be screened at the Haymarket Cineworld at 14:30 on Saturday 10th October 2015 and 18:15 on Wednesday 14th October 2015 at the BFI Southbank.

This is Studio Ghibli's final film.

The BFI London Film Festival 2015 also has other films of interest, including Mamoru Hosoda's The Boy and the Beast. If you like Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Wolf Children, you'll want to catch this feature.

When she starts to dream about her new friend and the strange house, the line between the real and imagined becomes blurred for Anna. Then there’s Marnie’s secret. Can Anna discover what it is in time to make a difference? Based on Joan G Robinson’s novel, When Marnie was There will be the last film from Studio Ghibli for a while. Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (Arrietty), it is a beautiful drama whose visual and narrative complexity underpins the animation powerhouse’s reputation as the world leader in quality hand-drawn animated films.

Following the passing of his mother, Ren has run away from home and is alone in the human world. An encounter with Kumatetsu, a creature resembling a bear, leads to his entering Jutengai, a town populated by beasts. Selfish and self-centred, Kumatetsu wants to win the contest to become the new Lord of the land, but requires an apprentice to do so. Ren is clearly in need of a paternal role model and thus an unorthodox relationship between boy and beast begins. As the story progresses, the two characters increasingly realise that making their way in the world is a journey best embarked upon with the aid of company rather than alone. Mamoru Hosoda follows up Wolf Children (LFF2012) with another exquisitely animated fable featuring a cast of extraordinary characters and dealing with universal issues. It is an accomplished film that once again asserts Hosoda’s position as one of the greats of Japanese animation.
