Anime fans who can get to Leeds from 18th to 21st November 2010 are in a for a real treat. Thought Bubble and Leeds International Film Festival have some great anime features to enjoy. Including some European Premieres such as Mardock Scramble: The First Compression (review here), Gintama The Movie, along with some great anime titles you should see if you haven't already. -

Normally at this stage we'd cherry pick a title or two for suggestion as to what to watch, but they're all good, Interstella 5555 is always worth watching one more time too. ^_-

Thought Bubble: The Leeds Sequential Art Festival is Back and we love Anime so much we've thrown some European Premieres in to the mix!

4th Thought Bubble Sequential Art Festival
18 - 21 November 2010

The biggest celebration of comic books, graphic novels and animated storytelling in the UK returns to Leeds this November, as Thought Bubble presents its most exciting programme to date! Now in its 4th year the festival has been extended over four days from 18th - 21st November 2010 with a jam-packed programme of events, including a massive comic book convention at Saviles Hall, Leeds' largest conference space, opposite the Royal Armouries, as well as exclusive screenings of anime films in association with the Leeds International Film Festival.

This year's convention welcomes some of the biggest names in comics to Leeds, including John Romita JR, the artist responsible for Kick Ass; Adi Granov, who works as an illustrator on the Iron Man comic book series; and Paul Duffield and Emma Vieceli, artists on the manga Shakespeare series. The one-day convention will also welcome the hundreds of exhibitors turning out in force for this year's event; from brilliant small press artists and writers, to specialist retailers of imported merchandise, offering something for all comic book fans. Aspiring artists and writers in our region are also encouraged to bring along their art portfolios as representatives from Marvel comics will be on hand to give advice, and be on the look-out for the next big thing in comics! Attendees are also encouraged to take part in our massive cosplay competition, which attracts hundreds of entrants each year, culminating in a huge masquerade ball.

This year's festival also includes a fantastic line up of free interactive workshops & masterclasses for both young people and adults with activity for beginners as well as more experienced writers and artists. Summer Wars, Ponyo, Paprika, Steamboy, Ghost in the Shell 2 - just some of the anime premieres Fanomenon has presented in the last ten years. For 2010 we announce the new Fanomenon Anime Day, showcasing some of the most anticipated new films and scheduled alongside the fantastic Thought Bubble Comic Convention. The first Fanomenon Anime Day features two giant box office hits, one incredible superspeedanime series. One Piece Film - Strong World and Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance have dominated the Japanese box office in the last year, and the two films are the most acclaimed instalments yet in their movie series. Leeds favourites Katsuhito Ishii and Takeshi Koike are behind the phenomenal racing movie Redline, a must see on the big screen in a packed cinema. And we are delighted to present part one of the Mardock Scramble trilogy, the cyberpunk noir series that has been planned for years and is finally here in Leeds. Plus an extra special exclusive for everyone attending the Anime Day at Leeds Town Hall - at midday you can see the European Premiere of Gintama The Movie, the first feature based on the popular sci-fi samurai manga!

GINTAMA THE MOVIE

Another big anime exclusive for Fanomenon 2010 - the European Premiere of the first feature based on the popular sci-fi samurai manga Gintama. In the medieval period of Edo (the old name of Tokyo), an invasion by the Amanto aliens has brought future technology & spaceships to the city, and the threat of rebellion is everywhere. The samurai are down and out, banned from bearing their swords, but the trio of fighters known as Odd Jobs Gin are still in action & their time comes when the master sword Benizakura goes missing.

ONE PIECE: STRONG WORLD

Smashing box office records in Japan and selected for animation competitions around the world, this wildly-inventive and whirlwind comic adventure is the tenth anniversary feature based on the phenomenon of One Piece, the manga by Eiichiro Oda. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates have set sail on their latest quest when out of the sky appears legendary pirate Golden Lion Shiki, 20 years escaping from the Great Prison of Impel Down. Shiki has a plan to bring down the World Government and next thing they know, Luffy and his gang are fighting for.

MARDOCK SCRAMBLE: THE FIRST COMPRESSION

The European Premiere of a striking new anime, part one of the long-awaited cyberpunk noir trilogy based on Tow Ubukata's award-winning sci-fi novels set in Mardock City. A teenage prostitute Rune Balot is murdered in an explosion by the devious gambler Shell. Under the 'Scramble09' ordinance, Balot is miraculously saved by Dr Easter and his self-aware Universal Tool, Eufcoque. Resurrected as a powerfully advanced cyborg and equipped with Eufcoque, Balot confronts the worst of Mardock City's psychotic underworld as she hunts down the killer who took her life.

13:45, HYDE PARK PICTURE HOUSE A huge hit in Japan last year, part two of Anno Hideaki's new Evangelion film series is an outstanding sci-fi anime experience in its own right - a visual feast with striking animation & an electrifying apocalyptic story. In a devastated future Earth, Tokyo-3 is under constant attack from the mysterious shape shifting monsters known as Angels. Protecting the city are the giant Eva robots of the military organisation Nerv that recruits teenagers as pilots. As the end looms, young pilots Shinji, Rei & Asuka are tasked with the fight to save humanity.

Leeds favourite Takashi Miike gives his original superhero parody a fresh spin in the big-budget, entertainment-packed sequel. Zebra City, 2025 - ex-teacher Ichikawa wakes from a 15 year sleep, unaware he once saved Earth from green alien goo as clueless crime-fighter Zebraman. Tokyo has been renamed in his honour and terribly every day during Zebra Time police can eliminate anyone to help cut crime. Now Earth is in peril again as evil leather-clad superstar Queen Zebra plots to breed alien goo life and destroy all humans, after first murdering her pop chart rival. Can Ichikawa recover his super stripey powers in time?

INTERSTELLA 5555: THE 5TORY OF THE 5ECRET 5TAR 5YSTEM

Daft Punk's album 'Discovery' is the inspiration for this fantasy adventure, visually reminiscent of the 80's TV show 'Battle of the Planets'. When an alien rock band are kidnapped by an evil music mogul and taken to planet earth, it is left to their number one fan to fly across the cosmos and rescue them. Featuring no dialogue, the soundtrack comprises the entire album as we witness the band's struggle to escape the slavery of a corporate music company to the tune of 'one more time'. An extraordinary experience.

MUTANT GIRLS SQUAD

For the first time ever, Japanese cult filmmakers Noboru Iguchi (The Machine Girl), Yoshihiro Nishimura (Tokyo Gore Police, Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl) and Tak Sakaguchi (Versus) have joined forces to bring you the action comedy splatterfest that is Mutant Girls Squad! On her 16th birthday Rin discovers she is a mutant when government agents crash her party and kill her parents. On the run she is taken in by a gang of girls all with mutant powers of their own. Together they are trained by the demented Kisaragi, who plans to transform Japan into a land for mutants using the girls as bizarre, gory killing machines. Extreme!
