The star of The Day The Earth Stood Still, The Matrix trilogy, and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure wants to play Spike Speigel in a live action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop.
Full Story
He's been a time traveling Dude, The One, and an alien come to destroy the Earth. For his next trick, self-professed otaku Keanu Reeves wants to bring a live action version of Cowboy Bebop to the big screen. Naturally, he'd star it, as well.
The Day The Earth Stood Still star told MTV he wants to play Spike Speigel in the adaptation that's currently being put together by producer Erwin Stoff, who has worked on a number of projects with Reeves before. "We’ve got the rights, we’ve got a writer," Keanu explained. "He’s [Stoff's] putting together a scene outline."
He says the storyline would revolve around the Bebop drug developed by the military. "We’re taking the Red Eye [story], the beginning part of the series, and then we’ll deal with the end of the series. We’re trying to figure out [the time frame]. We’re looking at the story right now."
If they have even a shred of good sense they'll also get the rights to Cowboy Bebop's amazing score by Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts. This fan, at least, will be very disappointed if the film doesn't open with Tank!
