ADV Films Announces February 8 Release of Gantz: Game of Death, Volume One

Date: Friday January 7th 2005 [19:03] | Posted By: Joe

ADV Films have sent us details about their new US DVD release, the dark and cutting edge Gantz. ADV pride themselves on showing the uncut version of the show, not seen on Japanese television. If you're used to cute anime, this may not be the best title for you, if you like something at the more violent end of the spectrum, then go for Gantz! However readers should not confuse Gantz with a mindless violence anime show (*cough* we'll mention no names here), it actually tackles some issues in a thought provoking manner, the two main characters are actually killed in the first episode (and that's not a spoiler either). Gantz also has a very strong helping of fan service!

The Gantz Volume 1 DVD only has two episodes on it (we believe to licensing difficulties), however the price has been lowered to reflect that.

ADV FILMS ANNOUNCES FEBRUARY 8 RELEASE OF GANTZ: GAME OF DEATH, VOLUME ONE

IS IT A GAME, OR A NIGHTMARE?

HOUSTON, January 7, 2005 – The game of death begins February 8, 2005 as the shocking thriller too hot for Japanese television makes it way to America with the volume one DVD release of the uncut and unedited Gantz.

Gantz is a mega-violent mind bender that questions the human perception of life and death. Produced by animation powerhouse Gonzo (Full Metal Panic, Chrono Crusade, Peacemaker), Gantz proved to be far too intense and graphic for Japanese broadcast, with massive edits and digital re-cropping required in order to be aired. Now you can experience Gantz in its full uncut, no-holds-barred glory with ADV Films' DVD release. Please be advised, however, that Gantz contains extremely graphic violence, language, nudity and frank sexual situations that may offend some viewers. Gantz is for mature viewers only.

The last thing Kei remembers is the train running over his body. Now he is in a room filled with strangers, all resurrected by the featureless black sphere known only as the Gantz. But their reprieve from death may only be temporary, for unless they undertake the brutal missions that the Gantz assigns, all of them will die again. The series that shocked Japan is unleashed in the first uncut and brutal volume of GANTZ!

Limited Collector's Edition Available!
The first volume of Gantz is also available as a Collector's Edition, which includes the Gantz: Game of Death, Volume 1 DVD and an attractive custom series art box to house the first six volumes of the series (SRP $27.98).

Gantz: Game of Death, Volume One (SPR $17.98) is a DVD-only release with 2 complete episodes presented in anamorphic widescreen in English 5.1 and Japanese 2.0 with English subtitles. Extras include: clean opening and closing animations, interview with director Ichiro Itano, booklet with show info and interviews, and ADV previews.
