Looking back over 2013 with Otaku News

Date: Tuesday December 31st 2013 [11:39] | Posted By: Joe

We don't normally do retrospective articles like this, but we thought it would be interesting to look back over the year that was 2013. February 2014 will mark 10 years of Otaku News. The last 12 months we've managed to cover a lot of interesting things and it'll be fun to go over all the events we were able to bring you in 2013.
Full Story
As always we were able to provide you with a selection of DVD, Blu-ray and streaming anime reviews.

We published our interview with Production IG the powerhouse behind many popular anime titles.

Rumi Rock Yukata

We were able to revisit one of our popular articles covering crazy Evangelion Merchandise and bring you coverage of even more wacky Evangelion goodies. We even visited the Evangelion Store in Harajuku to discover the weird range of merchandise available. It really does go to show, if they can make it, they'll make it with an Evangelion tie-in some how!

We were also able to bring you some excellent coverage of the anime industry, interviewing several major anime directors, including Kenji Kamiyama the man behind Ghost in The Shell: Stand Alone Complex and the new feature film 009 RE:Cyborg.

We met Shinichiro Watanabe the director behind Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Kids on the Slope and the upcoming Space Dandy.

One the biggest anime hits of the year was without doubt newcomer Attack on Titan, we were lucky enough to interview WIT Studio the team behind the hit.

Hyper Japan 2013

As well as attending events like Hyper Japan, we covered new gaming event REZtron and hi-tech Japanese restaurant Inamo.

Our podcast has also broken the 10 episode mark, with 12 episodes released. If you haven't listened to the antics of Colin, Rebecca and Spike, you really should. Yes, they are like that in real life too. ^_^;;

2013 had some major new events for UK anime fans too with new company Anime Limited bursting on the scene and releasing a lot of top notch titles, they also helped bring a lot of A-List anime guests to the UK for events such as the MCM London Comic Con.

The English speaking manga world also lost a giant in the form of Toren Smith, who passed away in March. We know many of our readers discovered manga, and by extension anime thanks to his pioneering work.

We've also been busy keeping our London Anime and Manga Shopping Guide up-to-date, with some shops closing in London and others moving location.

Our sister site the Otaku Calendar has also proved it's worth in helping many fans keep track of all those events! We're always looking for volunteers to help maintain it, so if you're interested, please do get in touch.

Last and by no means least, we're also very proud to have brought a world wide exclusive to anime fans with our feature on Fosse Farm, the location used in new anime Kinmoza. We had a lot of fun revealing details of the location after the episode had aired and surprising fans detailing that Alice's house was a real place that you too can stay in.

We had a lot of fun in 2013 and really are looking forward to 2014 and the surprises it will bring. We'll share them with you when we can.
