Anime Limited Licenses Ping Pong The Animation

Date: Friday 24th July 2015 [16:05] | Posted By: Joe

The good folks at UK Anime company Anime Limited have announced that they have the new licence - Ping Pong The Animation. It's based on the manga by Taiyo Matsumoto, who is also responsible for Tekkonkinkreet and more recently Sunny. The anime is direct by Masaaki Yuasa who did the excellent The Tatami Galaxy.

Anime Limited intend to release the title on DVD and blu-ray sometime in October 2015. We speculate that they've chosen this date to coincide with the huge October MCM London Comic Con.
Full Story
Details as follows:

It's MCM Comic Con in Manchester this weekend and we have slew of news to share with you as the weekend unfolds. Though the event begins tomorrow we wanted to start sharing our news with you today kicking things off with a glimpse at our release lineup for October & November that includes Sword Art Online II: Part 2 and a new license announcement! Let's get started with the reveal of that new license announcement.

New Licence Announcement - PING PONG THE ANIMATION

First up is a series that we've had our eyes on for a quite a while. Ping Pong The Animation is from the creator of the Eisner Award-winning Tekkonkinkreet and directed by Masaaki Yuasa (The Tatami Galaxy and the Emmy award-winning "Food Chain" episode of Adventure Time) this series is sure to blow you away with it's breathtaking animation and poignant storytelling all coming together to make it can't miss addition to your collection.

Childhood friends Makoto "Smile" Tsukimoto (ironically, he seldom smiles) and Yukata "Peco" Hoshino are capable and aspiring table tennis players of Katase High School. Coach Jō "Butterfly" Koizumi has high expectation to both of them, but when Peco gets decisively defeated by a Chinese student he becomes so devastated and stops practicing. Meanwhile, Koizumi discovers Smile's potential and tries to motivate him to overcome his psychological obstacle.

"Ping Pong is a title I've had my eyes on for a quite for a while" says Andrew Partridge, President of Anime Limited. "It's unique animation style coupled with the quality of story telling and the actual playing of Table Tennis itself, keeping in mind I'm really not that well versed in the sport at all, makes this show something that everyone should really go out of their way to see. I'm delighted we've been able to add this to our ever-expanding catalogue."

We'll be releasing Ping Pong The Animation as a complete series set on both Blu-ray and DVD in October (date TBC). Our release will include both the English dub and the original Japanese audio with subtitles.

On disc content:

Complete Series (11 episodes)
Extras (may differ depending on format): Episode Commentaries, Japanese Box Set Commercials, TV Spots, Original Trailer, Next Episode Previews, Textless Songs, Trailers
