Makers of the Modern World from Haus Publishing

Date: Thursday 23rd December 2010 [18:27] | Posted By: Joe

The good folks at Haus Publishing have sent us the details of their Makers of the Modern World series of 32 volumes on the Paris Peace Conference, which tried to create a new world order after the devastation of the First World War.

Why would that interest an anime fan? I hear you cry. Well we know some of our readers are history buffs, while others would be interested in the Prince Saionji: Japan volume, which is written by Jonathan Clements, who is best known to anime and manga fans as the co-author of the Anime Encyclopedia, along with being an industry expert, translator, anime magazine columnist, he also did the Wellington Koo: China volume.

You can order the books on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com -

Full Story
Press release as follows:

Two years ago, on the 90th anniversary of the Armistice Day, we launched the Makers of the Modern World at a ceremony at the Imperial War Museum, where the two William Orpen paintings hang, which inspired the series: 32 volumes on the Paris Peace Conference, which tried to create a new world order after the devastation of the First World War. On that day I promised that the concluding volume, written by our brilliant general editor Professor Alan Sharp, would be published two years later. I am proud to announce that we have done it! This unique series is complete. And Professor Sharp has produced a truly fabulous concluding volume: Consequences of Peace - The Versailles Settlement: Aftermath and Legacy 1919-2010 - a masterpiece of historiography and the cornerstone completing the arch, which we attempted to build with this series: the attempt to publish a history of the world in the 20th century seen from 32 different perspectives. If you only read one volume read this one! But I would urge you also to at least sample some of the other volumes by clicking on the links below.

On behalf of everyone at Haus Publishing and Arabia Books I would like to extend our best wishes for a joyous and peaceful holiday season and for health and prosperity in 2011.
