Ghibli film licensed for UK/Ireland

Date: Monday 15th June 2009 [14:59] | Posted By: Eeeper

Optimum Home Entertainment UK schedule Studio Ghibli's Ocean Waves for August 09.
Full Story
UK based Optimum Releasing has scheduled a release date for Tomomi Mochizuki's film Umi ga Kikoeru (Ocean Waves) of August 17th, 2009. The Studio Ghibli animated film has been available on DVD with English subtitles in other territories but this release marks the first time the film has been made available in an English speaking market.

Studio Ghibli's film output has been mostly released in the United States by Buena Vista (Walt Disney distribution division) and by the former company Central Park Media (Grave of the Fireflies only). In England/Ireland the Buena Vista/Ghibli catalogue has been handled by Optimum Releasing, with the animated film version of Ursula K. Le Guin's Tales Of Earthsea fantasy adventure story and Only Yesterday being the two films that Optimum handled by themselves (copyright issues prevented the animted version of Earthsea being released in the U.S. and Buena Vista has said it doesn't see a market for Only Yesterday).
