PRESS RELEASE:

Opus Underground Presents Rebelo expo:06

An exhibition of urban street art at Opus Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne.

On 16 November, Newcastle upon Tyne's Opus Gallery launches Opus Underground, a collection of work by urban, street and graffiti artists including Japanese artists Takashi Murakami and Chiho Aoshima, Radiohead artist Stanley Donwood, Gorillaz artist Jamie Hewlett and many more.

A major part of the exhibition will be devoted to Rebelo, a collective of emerging street and graphic artists. Over 50 original canvases and prints by 16 Rebelo artists will be displayed, with prices from as little as 50.

Artists involved include Hello Bard, Juicefoozle, Mr Guy, Hombre Uno, Copyright and Matt Joyce, with live painting on the opening night by visual ninjas The Jam Factory and Lint.

So far, 2006 has seen a huge demand for urban art. Banksy's latest print edition sold within an hour of becoming available and his earlier works are selling well at auction. Antony Micallef, who exhibited at Opus Gallery earlier this year, had a sell out solo London show last month, with celebrity clients including Robbie Williams, Damien Hirst and Gwen Stefani making purchases.

Furthermore, Spank The Monkey, Baltic's examination of urban and suburban art, is currently on show in Newcastle Gateshead and exhibits a number of artists - including Faile, Shepard Fairey and Kozyndan - whose prints are available to buy from Opus Underground.

Opus marketing and PR manager, Louise Macklin, says: "In supporting Rebelo, we're supporting household names of the future".

Opus Underground's Rebelo expo:06 runs until 22 December. Opus Underground, a dedicated space in the Newcastle gallery, will continue to show work by emerging urban artists, and will be launched with its own website, Opusunderground.com.
