New anime and manga-based academic journal Mechademia is looking for sbumissions for future issues.
Aspiring writers looking to make their break into anime journalism have some good news. Anime News Network has announced that Mechademia, an academic journal for anime and manga, is looking for submissions for future upcoming issues. And with the first issue set to debut in the fall of 2006, any writers who manage to get their material published in this issue will be able to gain some major kudos.
Published by University of Minnesota Press, Mechademia will appear annually and focus on a main theme related to anime and manga. However, the magazine will not simply limit itself to these subjects. It will also extend into other areas related to anime and manga such as gaming, character design, fashion and the various fan-based practices from around the world. With such a broad horizon of subjects, Mechademia will certainly not be lacking for material to talk about.
According to the guidelines for the magazine found on the website, each essay submitted must be no longer than 5,000 words, use Chicago-style documentation, and may include up to five black-and-white images. Color images may be possible, but must require special permission from the publisher. Copyright permissions will be sought by the editorial staff. Submissions, written in the form of a Word document, may be sent via e-mail to Editor-in-Chief Frenchy Lunning at email@example.com.
