Video Games Music reaches the Classic FM Hall of Fame 2012

Date: 2012 May 13th Sunday [8:26] | Posted By: Voxie

After voting from fans, two video game entries have made the Classic FM Hall of Fame.

At number 16 is Aerith's theme from Final Fantasy VII, composed by Nobuo Uematsu. And at number 238 is Skyrim, composed by Jeremy Soule.

As a person who began liking classical music through video games in the first place, this is absolutely amazing news! Video games have come a long way!
Full Story
At #16 is Aerith's Theme from Final Fantasy VII, positioning just after Johann Pachelbel's much applauded Pachabel's Canon. Final Fantasy VII was, and still is, the world's most groundbreaking RPG. What better title to break grounds again, only this time with the classical music world?

"(Aerith's Theme) 2nd highest new entry. Another success for the video-game vote campaign.

Nobuo Uematsu is a Japanese video game composer best known for his work on the majority of games in the Final Fantasy series. Uematsu is a self-taught musician and composer, he began playing the piano at the age of eleven or twelve. Aerith's Theme is part of the soundtrack to the Final Fantasy VII game, and the motif associated with the character recurs throughout the game. There are many versions of this theme including an orchestral version, a piano version, and a vocal version." Classic FM

Further down the list, is another note from the world of gaming. The soundtrack from Skyrim, one of the biggest games released this year. My personal favourites from the soundtrack are Dragonsreach, Ancient Stones, Secunda and The Streets of Whiterun. If you haven't played the game yet, then just give these a listen. It'd be enough to make you want to!

"Fans of video-game soundtracks have voted this new entry into the chart.

Jeremy Soule, one of the most prolific composers in video game music, was asked to work on the soundtrack for Skyrim (or, to give it its full title, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim) following his work on parts three and four of the Elder Scrolls series.

The game's main theme 'Dragonborn' was recorded with a choir of over thirty people, singing in the game world's dragon language." Classic FM
